Zendala Dare #26

Here is my entry for the Zendala Dare # 26.

Well, it’s not a Halloween/Autumn themed Zendala, however:
            A) It’s not late
            B) I am continuing my work through the official Tangles.

All in all this may be one of my favorite Zendala templates. I see doing this one many times in the future.

Zendala Dare #25

Well like Dare #24, Zendala Dare #25 is late getting up on my blog. I am still not used to them being posted on Saturday. I am getting better and this weeks will be posted shortly also. After the paradox diversion, I have resumed my Journey through all of the official Tangles, and this patter was great for getting in a number of tangles. I’ll soon go through and post all of the tangles used in each of the Zendalas from this project.

IX Paradox.

The following is my response to both the Diva’s challenge from last week and the Zendala Dare. This week I’ll continue my work through the official tangles, but this weeks Zendala screamed paradox. I really wanted something other than paradox in the center so Ix fit nicely.

Been Away

Well I have been away longer than I had planned. One of the main reason is I am still processing my feelings/thought that surround my fathers death. A small part was the My wife and I skipped away for a long relaxing weekend at a cabin just off lake Michigan, as a 1st anniversary trip/ late honeymoon. Though the weather was not what we would have liked, and MJ sadly was fighting a cold it was a very good weekend away, though I am kind of disillusioned with “cabins”, they just seem way more money for not much more than you get with a hotel room.  The last reason would be the following article http://www.anamcaraservices.com/articles/2012/9/24/do-you-know-what-happiness-looks-like.html I recommend everyone read it. This article made me stop and think about what truly makes me happy, and Zentangle® is high up on the list.  Attached are a couple of my recent ZIA’s, I am on a quest to do a tangle merging Aura-knot and Fengle, this is close to what I want, but I would like more interweaving. The second is a new Ganesh I did on vacation for Dilip Patel.

Zendala Dare #23

Zendala Dare #23

As mentioned in the Diva’s challenge post, I have been a lump, but I still wanted to do the Zendalla dare, but was having trouble getting started. I had already done the random tangles, so I came up with something new. So I opened my 106 tangles book from Rick & Maria and started at the beginning. Of course I did not get all 106 in this week, but I figure for the next few dares I’ll keep going till I am through all of the official patterns. Should keep me busy a few weeks at least. I choose to avoid color and only did minimal shading, all in all I am a fan of how this turned out.

Weekly-challenge-87

Well with the loss of pops, I have been pretty much a lump the last week. For this challenge I decided I wanted something bold, and with just a couple patterns. I know in Zentangle® there are no mistakes, but I made a couple here, and did not like this when I finished it, but as often happens it grew on me so here is my tile for the challenge this week.

For Jack (Dad)

As some of you may be aware my father passed away yesterday around 6:00 A.M. I felt the need to sit down today and create a piece of Zentangle® Inspired Art for him. I was not sure what I would do, so I started like you do with any tangle. First I added a border. Then a string, the string ended up with a spiral type pattern, with six other areas around the spiral. This made my decision for patterns easy, I decided to make the spiral represent mom and dad finally joined together again in the eternal dance. The other six sections would represent each of the six kids. I selected a tangle for each section that started with the first letter of each persons name.  I stuck with the original 106 patterns that are in the Guide I have.

Patterns and Names
Dad: (John):      Jonqal - Starts with Jon, and looks almost like a dance floor.
Mom (Vivian):  Vega - Creates a feel of pillars to to, and mom was the pillar of the family.
Saundra:           Static
John:                Juke
Mike:               Mysteria
Rodger:           Raddox
Joellen:            Jetties
Roy (Me):       Rick's Paradox

Here it is, I hope you like it wherever you are dad.

Weekly Challenge #86 "Break Free!"

Weekly Challenge #86 "Break Free!"

After the morning I had today, this challenge was sorely needed. I jumped into it with a gusto, and am very pleased with the results. I decided to start with Aura-Knot (I have been using it a lot I know.) And for the initial break free I added Squid, and wove it through the knot. After doing this I decided to push the border further and added a background that went all the way to the edge of the tile, removing the border all together. I decided to push a little further and add a little color. I love, love, love the finished tile, even if I am still a little anti-color, in my zentangle®. Here is the tile turned in two different directions.

I Hope you enjoy this as much as I do!

Weekly Challenge #85: UMT v. VIII: Copada

Weekly Challenge #85: UMT v. VIII: Copada

OK, so I am a little late in doing the challenge this week. It has been a busy week, and with the stress I am under due to my dad's failing health, I should be doing a lot more tangling. Today, I have done a lot of tangles, but the rest of the week has been mixed between being busy, and vegging.

Tonight I told myself I'd do this weeks challenge, so with out further comment I present "The Copada Under the Bed", sorry it looks like a monster to me. Which is not a bad thing.

Zendala Dare #22 – Monodala

Ok when I saw the Zendala Dare #22 I got a little excited, this dare merged two things I have grown to love, Zendalas and Monotangles. I had to resist the urge to do my favorite Tangle, and my go to tangle since I attended CZT-9 which is Indy-Rella. So I let chaos reign and decided to go completely random. I went to Tanglepatterns.com and had excel choose a random number for me from 1 to 26 [=ROUNDUP(RAND()*(26-1)+1,0)] the result was 23, the letter V. The letter V has nine patterns currently so I had Excel choose another number for me [=ROUNDUP(RAND()*(9-1)+1,0)]the result this time was 5, which meant Verve was my pattern.
This was a mixed blessing, I happy as it was a pattern I had not used before, but I was really wanted something I could do more Tangleation of. Though it was a pattern I was not very familiar with I am very happy with the outcome. It almost reminds me of a curvy Rick’s Paradox.
            Hope you enjoy this.

OK - I was walking the dog tonight, and it hit me that I should do a second Monodala.... I felt that I should attempt it in Auoraknot, so here is the second Monodala.

Zendala Dare # 21

Well as it was the Zendala class that really drew me into the wonderful world of Zentangle® it was justa  matter of time before I decided to join in the Zendala Dare. below is my Zendala  for this weeks dare. I tend to be a purist and stick to black and white, but this called for a little red highlighting.

Meep-Meep

I was planning on doing a “Monotangle” of my tangle Meep-Meep, however once I started working on it, and had it where I liked it, I decided it needed a background. As the pattern is based on the cartoons of my childhood, I figured a floor type would work, so I added Florz behind it. I guess this would be a Duotangle? I could have continued to add more and more Meep-Meep to the tile, but I think adding a single background tangle to the tile, brings out the primary tangle. I hope you all enjoy the first of the almost monotangles I’ll be posting of the tangles I am developing.

Diva Weekly Challenge No. 84

This is my work for the Diva Weekly Challenge No. 84 "String Theory v.  XI: Blind-Sighted".  At first I was going to draw the outside borders then do just the string “Blind”, but I decided to do all the pencil marks blind. So I closed my eyes and began drawing, once I had marks for my tile, I opened my eyes and began to tangle. As this is my first Diva’s challenge I decided I wanted to do more traditional tiles filling each area with a different tangle, as I learned in my 1st Zentangle® class.

For those of you unfamiliar with Zentangle, the string is a line or series of lines you draw on the tile, which serves a number of purposes:
  •   First it removes the fear of an empty tile
  •   It acts as a Guide
  •   It gives you separate sections to work in
First the string....

And the finished Tile....

Why I am a CZT

Why am I able to proudly display the following logo on my Blog!

Around the beginning of the year my wife sent me an email message telling me that there was going to be a class for something called Zentangle® at the studio run by her massage therapist. She asked if I wanted to go, I kind of waffled, looked it up online, talked with my wife about it, and we decided we would go try it out. The class which was held by Sheryl Lamarand, had me hooked, by the end of the first class I decided to sign up for the second class a month latter. After the second class Sheryl said the next class would be a Zendala class, I was curious we had done a Mandala activity at my company retreat the year before, and the sparked an interest in mandalas. The Zendala class set the hook that had been planted during the 1st two classes. I loved the creation of the Zendala, and how the simple patterns worked together to create the amazing mandalas the students in the class created. Shortly after this class Rick and Maria posted that there would be two CZT classes this year, I quickly emailed Rick and arranged attending the class held in August 2012. Below is the Zendala that I created in that third class, the creation of this is truly the reason I am a CZT today. Though I have not been tangling as long as other, I have developed a deep love of Zentangle, the art, and the creation process.

This is a photo of the Zendala shortly before it was finished, after this photo I added just a touch of shading and blackened in the white crescents.

Workday ZIA

This is a ZIA (Zentangle® Inspired Artwork) that I began before my CZT Class. I found it in my scratch pad and decided to finish it with a number of my favorite tangles. I am very happy with the way the layering worked out. I also like the effect that cubine plays on the edge of the petals. This is one of the strange situations where the photo looks better then the real thing. I love the real paper tangle, but in the photo the layers stand out more than in person. I'll add another shot or two of this tangle soon.
